Drop by drop, Daniela Carrasco works on a new perfume of hers, telling yet another story through her botanical fragrance brand, Linen Tutu.
"Everyone has their own story to tell," she said. "When you're ordering from an independent house, it's a very personal story that has been bottled... There are a lot of independent small perfume houses that are coming up with fragrances [and] telling stories that have never been told before. I think that that's the beauty of Linen Tutu, and that's the beauty of independent perfumery."
Carrasco's love of fragrance came about a decade ago when she took an aromatherapy class on a whim. From that moment on, her life completely changed.
"There was my life before that course and my life after," she said. "I had always been curious about scent, but it wasn't until that course that my mind just completely opened up to the world of scent and olfaction, and [the idea] of creating these beautiful things that just smell wonderful and help people feel good."
From there, Carrasco's creative side opened up, exploring perfumery from a design perspective.
"Perfumery is a science, but it's also an art," she explained. "Every perfume starts with some source of inspiration or story. It could be about a moment. It could be something that you experienced personally. I see something happening before me and I'm like, 'Oh, how do I encapsulate that into a fragrance?'...I think that's just kind of magical."
As the years have gone on, Carrasco's scents have not only brought people joy, but also introduced her to customers from all different backgrounds.
"The response has been very positive, overwhelmingly so," she said. "I did not expect it, but I'm very grateful for folks that decided to give my fragrances a try. I've connected with people from different parts of the world, and that's been really amazing."
Carrasco’s perfumes are all available on Linen Tutu’s website. They’re also available for purchase in person at Au Ciel Flowers in Irvington.
