Members of the Greenwood Lake community came out on Saturday to clap for the first responders battling the Sterling Forest fire.
About a dozen people lined up along Windermere Avenue for the clap out.
The crowd brought handmade signs, American flags and cheered as the first responders began heading out for their shifts.
It appeared to be an emotional experience for many people.
News 12 crews saw a few individuals with tears flowing down their faces as they made eye contact and thanked the brave men and women for their service.
"Talking about it is definitely emotional [be]cause it's just seeing our community come together. [It's] such a beautiful thing. We've got something special here and we're just so grateful," said resident Stacy Lawrence.
