Gov. Ned Lamont signed the new state budget Tuesday.

It aims to lower property taxes by sending cities and towns nearly $300 million. The money could also be used to prevent steep cuts to education and classroom services.

The new budget additionally set asides another $300 million for Lamont's universal pre-school program.
