It's been a little over a month since the Bed-Stuy fish pond was vandalized, and now it's back and bigger than before.

"It inspires the kids, it inspires people around the world, they love it," said Hajj-Malik Lovick, the creator of the pond.

The pond was created at the beginning of the summer from a leaking hydrant, with the goal of brightening up the area around 305 Hancock St. in Bed-Stuy. Since then, it's grown into much more.

“We looking to do other things for the kids, nonprofit for the kids," said Lovick. "We donate books, we got free hand sanitizer, just doing as much as we can and better and better.”

In the last month, they've added benches for people to sit, children's books and new signs. Some residents though are worried about what the future holds.

"I'm just concerned about what's going to happen during the winter," said Gregory Candia, a Bed-Stuy resident.

The creators of the pond have been working with a local architect to ensure the pond can be enjoyed all year long.

"They stop eating under 50 degrees. All we have to do is keep it liquid," says Devang Shah, a licensed architect. "Whether that is with a solar battery system backup or with a pump and a manual aerator.”

A GoFundMe has been created to help fund the project. They also plan on releasing merchandise in the coming weeks to help with additional costs.
