'God has a plan.' Danbury church partially collapses; no injuries reported
A partial building collapse occurred at a Danbury church Thursday afternoon, fire officials say.
It happened at Lighthouse Ministries on West Street, next to Danbury City Hall and within walking distance of a fire station.
Fire officials say a passing motorist reported the collapse around 4:30 p.m.
Once they arrived, firefighters found a large portion of the church had collapsed. They searched the area, used thermal imaging cameras and found that no one was trapped.
Eversource was called in to secure the building's electrical and natural gas services. Building department officials and the Fire Marshal's Office also responded to assess the structure and begin an investigation.
In a Facebook post, church officials said they are working with their insurance company, structural engineers and others to determine their next steps.
"We are devastated but at peace! God has a plan. We will follow His leading. Lighthousers, now more than ever, we will commit to remaining in our canoe of God's Word, while steadying ourselves with the dual oars of Worship and Prayer. We'll see you Sunday at the Parochial House and we will honor The Lord... together!" the post read.
No injuries were reported.
