Georgia man charged in Facebook Marketplace watch robbery in New Jersey
A Georgia man has been arrested and charged in connection with a robbery that occurred during a Facebook Marketplace transaction in Gloucester Township, police said.
Officers responded to Commerce Square Plaza on Blackwood-Clementon Road at about 2:57 p.m. on May 24 after receiving a report of a robbery. Investigators learned the victim had arranged to meet a prospective buyer to sell a high-value watch through Facebook Marketplace.
According to police, the suspect took possession of the watch during the meeting, showed the victim a large knife and then ran away.
Following an investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 20-year-old Oswald Ricardo Whyatt Greene, of Morrow, Georgia. Greene was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, police said.
Officers located Greene in a vehicle on Blackwood-Clementon Road on June 4 and took him into custody without incident. Police said they recovered a knife believed to have been used during the robbery.
Greene was taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
Police reminded residents to use caution when conducting online marketplace transactions and encouraged the use of the department’s Safe Exchange Zones at police headquarters on Chews Landing Road.
