Drivers are paying more at the pump as many prepare for one last summer getaway before Labor Day.
The average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut rose 8 cents over the past week, while prices in New York increased by 4 cents.
AAA said the statewide average in Connecticut is now $4.14 per gallon.
In Fairfield County, the average price is slightly higher at $4.17 per gallon.
New York's statewide average stands at $4.16 per gallon, according to AAA.
The average in Westchester County is even higher at $4.36 per gallon.
AAA said the recent increase is tied to ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which continues to constrain global petroleum supplies.
There is some relief for drivers. AAA said statewide averages in both Connecticut and New York remain 5 cents lower than they were a month ago.
