The New York City Department of Sanitation says a collection truck with recyclable materials caught fire around 9 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Lewis Avenue.

The FDNY says crews responded and extinguished debris on fire in the rear hopper of the truck. No injuries were reported.

Citizen app video shows a large pile of trash left in the street following the fire. The DSNY says its crews have cleaned it up.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, according to the DSNY.

The DSNY says many garbage truck fires are caused by improperly disposed lithium batteries, and it urges New Yorkers to avoid disposing of lithium batteries in the regular trash or recycling.
