The director of "When Does Freedom Begin" - an award-winning documentary featuring three returning citizens from Bridgeport - told News 12 that seeing the film debut on Amazon Prime this week "was the thrill of a lifetime." "I spent a full five years on this project, and for Amazon Prime to pick it up - which is extremely prestigious because the platform has significantly tightened its content policies in recent years - is exactly the boost we needed to get our message out," said Linda Genereux, an acclaimed New York City filmmaker. "When Does Freedom Begin" focuses on three formerly incarcerated Bridgeport residents - Roland Whitley, Louis L. Reed and Tiheba Bain - who have spent years fighting for criminal justice reform at the community, state and federal level. "You should see in this film hope, resiliency, faith and determination - but most importantly, you should see Bridgeport," said Reed, who's helped to craft 30 pieces of federal legislation promoting prison reform. "We are making a difference and getting our message out there - and for this film to now have a global audience through Amazon Prime is really a crowning achievement for all of us, but especially for the cause."
