Freight train catches fire in Stamford; Metro-North now operating on or close to schedule

MTA police said the train operator was likely the only person on board.

Metro-North Railroad is now operating on or close to schedule this morning after a freight train caught on fire Tuesday in Stamford.
Fire officials say they were called to East Main Street for a reported train fire that happened around 11 p.m. Service was suspended afterward.
MTA police said the train operator was likely the only person on board.
The investigation remains ongoing.
