Nearly 130 colleges and universities in New York are waiving application fees this fall.
The saying goes, "the best things in life are free," and Centereach High School seniors Johanna Vagnasco and Maya Cosmo agree when it comes to applying to colleges.
"So far, it's been free. I haven't had to pay for any applications yet," said Johanna.
Nearly a dozen public and private schools on Long Island are participating in the free fall applications.
It's a New York state initiative to make college more accessible.
Students can submit up to five free applications for New York state universities.
The state says college application fees in New York typically range between $50 to $90 per application.
SUNY schools are waiving application fees until Nov. 3.
"It makes it a lot easier, the process is simpler, you don't have to take a credit card out, you can just go and apply and it's about your merit rather than your socioeconomic status," said Maya.
For Johanna, this means she is also applying to some private colleges.
"I was like that's interesting it's not a SUNY school but I'm not complaining I mean if it's a free application it's free," she said.
