Crews with the Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department braved the bitter cold to rescue a dog that fell through the ice and swam to a nearby island.
The incident happened on Sunday. Crews donned ice rescue gear and went out on the water to rescue the pup. Officials say the crew used a resident’s canoe they found on the water’s edge.
“With some teamwork—and a few treats to win the dog’s trust—firefighters Jost and Chazen were able to leash the pup and bring him safely back to shore,” officials wrote.
        No serious injuries were reported.
