A fourth suspect has now been charged in the 2021 killing of taxi driver Jorge Arbayza in the City of Newburgh, following what officials describe as an active, long-term investigation.
According to court records and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Jahseem Miller was arrested May 8 and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the
September 2021 homicide. Court records show Miller is currently being held in the Orange County Jail and is due back in Orange County Court before Judge Brown on May 29.
Last year, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced the arrests and indictments of three other Newburgh men connected to the killing: Nehemiah Clarke, Jordan Burch and Damani Cruz.
Clarke and Burch were charged with second-degree murder and attempted robbery, while Cruz was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and related crimes.
Authorities say City of Newburgh police responded to North Miller Street on Sept. 30, 2021, after reports of a shooting and found Arbayza suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries.
Officials say the investigation spanned multiple states and involved the City of Newburgh Police Department, U.S. Marshals, New York State Police and other agencies.
Trials for the previously arrested defendants are currently scheduled for Aug. 17.
