Former youth football and cheer treasurer charged with misusing organization funds in Lawrence Township
A local woman has been arrested and charged following an investigation into the alleged misuse of funds belonging to the Lawrence Junior Cardinals, a non-profit youth football and cheer organization.
The Lawrence Township police department announced that 35-year-old Veronica Bruno, was arrested on Thursday. She faces a third-degree charge of misappropriation of entrusted property.
The investigation began in December 2025 when the Lawrence Township police received a report concerning suspicious financial activity within the youth sports organization. The Lawrence Junior Cardinals, which relies on fundraising, donations, concessions, and participant registration fees to operate, discovered the discrepancies during an internal audit.
The organization's internal review revealed multiple unauthorized transactions that were not for the benefit of the league. Representatives of the Lawrence Junior Cardinals cooperated fully with law enforcement throughout the subsequent inquiry.
The probe ultimately revealed that Bruno, who served as the organization's treasurer, allegedly used the Lawrence Junior Cardinals' debit card to make various personal purchases. In total, the unauthorized personal transactions amounted to $1,703.32 of the non-profit's funds.
Following her arrest, Bruno was released on a complaint summons pending a future appearance in court.
