Former state trooper who falsely claimed he was shot on duty gets 6 months in jail
A former state trooper who admitted to lying about being shot in the line of duty has been sentenced to six months in jail and five years’ probation.
Thomas Mascia pleaded guilty to several charges, including filing a false report.
Mascia claimed he was shot on the Southern State Parkway by a dark-skinned man a year ago.
Investigators determined he shot himself.
Mascia was supposed to be sentenced in May, but it was delayed over questions about his mental health.
His plea includes mental health treatment, probation and $300,000 in restitution.
