A former police officer in Saugerties has pleaded guilty to a sex crime involving a child.

Officials say 54-year-old Sydney Mills entered the plea Monday in Ulster County Court.

Prosecutors say the incident happened in 2022 while Mills was still serving as a police officer.

The Ulster County District Attorney’s Office praised the victim for coming forward and reporting the crime.

Officials say her actions helped bring accountability in the case involving a public official.

Mills is expected to be sentenced in September.
