The man who died in an overnight fire in Middletown has been identified as a former New York City firefighter.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family members.
The fire broke out at a residence on Starhaven Ave. early Saturday morning, claiming one life and injuring several first responders, according to the Middletown Fire Department.
Two police officers were taken to Garnet Health Medical Center for smoke inhalation and three firefighters were evaluated and treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Authorities say the firefighters discovered the victim inside the home while battling the flames.
Officials say the preliminary cause of the fire appears to be an overloaded power strip, although the investigation remains ongoing.
