        Fordham ‘affordable’ housing lottery opens

        Applicants for the studio apartments must have a combined income of at least $104,000, while one-bedroom applicants need to earn over $110,000.

        A new housing lottery in Fordham is now open, but the so-called "affordable" units are anything but.
        The building at 2385 Tiebout Ave. is offering three studios and nine one-bedroom apartments, with rents ranging from $3,000 to $3,200 per month. That's about $1,000 more than the average rent in the Bronx last year, according to MNS Real Estate data.
        Applicants for the studio apartments must have a combined income of at least $104,000, while one-bedroom applicants need to earn over $110,000. The maximum income allowed ranges from $141,000 to $181,000. Those numbers are more than double the average median household income for the Bronx, which is just below $47,000, according to the latest census data in 2023.
        Despite the high prices, some Bronx residents say the area’s location near Fordham Road and popular stores like Target and Chick-fil-A makes it appealing.
        The lottery is open until Oct. 7. Those interested can apply on the Housing Connect website.
