The first female firefighter in Bergen County history has died, according to the Haworth Volunteer Fire Department.
Rosemary Weyer, 87, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, according to her obituary.
The Haworth Fire Department wrote on social media that Weyer "forever [changed] the landscape of the fire service through her courage, strength, and determination."
Weyer graduated from the Englewood School of Nursing before earning certification as a paramedic. In 1979, at age 40, she joined the Haworth Fire and Ambulance Department.
"We are grateful to Rosemary for her service, and we honor her selfless contributions to our County. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched throughout her time," Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said on Facebook.
