Flames could be seen punching through the roof of an apartment complex as multiple crews worked to douse the fire early Friday morning.

The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. in a complex on Plaza Drive. The apartments are located just off Woodbridge center drive, near a mall as well as a plaza of stores that include a Panera, a Wegmans supermarket and a Lowe's Home Improvement store.

Flames and heavy, black smoke could be seen from several blocks away. Firefighters from Woodbridge as well as nearby towns responded to the location.

There is no word yet on whether anyone was injured or how many people have been displaced.
