The home of a local veteran was destroyed by a fire on Thursday, according to officials.

Authorities say it occurred on Seven Oaks Lane in Southeast. Brewster fire departments fought hard to contain the flames due to a lack of nearby fire hydrants.

The senior homeowner was able to escape unharmed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
