A fire inflicted significant damage on Dickey's Barbecue Pit Saturday afternoon in Whiting, according to authorities.

Crews responded to the scene on Lacey Road around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a call about smoke coming from the ceiling.

Active flames and heavy smoke clouds could be seen as firefighters arrived.

Responders from multiple fire departments worked to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread.

The restaurant was evacuated along with a neighboring business. Authorities say the restaurant has since been deemed unsafe for occupancy.

No injuries were reported. Officials say they believe the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical malfunction.
