A fire broke out in a multi-unit building under construction on Lake Street in Spring Valley just before 7:30 am.
Firefighters responded to the scene and found black smoke coming out of the front entrance.
Crews searched and determined that there was no one in the building and the fire was burning on the first floor. It took several dozen firefighters about an hour to extinguish the flames.
Fire officials say fighting a fire in a building under construction can be extremely dangerous, as you don't know what to expect inside and the building may not be secure.
The building is located on the same street where a deadly fire occurred at the Evergreen Assisted Living facility, as well as a house fire that killed five people, including two children.
Investigators are trying to determine the exact cause of the fire but told News 12 there was no gas or electricity hooked up to the building.
