Specialized hazardous materials teams were called to Camden County overnight after a building fire sparked a dangerous anhydrous ammonia leak

Units from Hazmat 13 and Safety 13 operated alongside Camden Hazmat 1 and Camden County Department of Public Safety Hazmat to support the Winslow Township Fire Department in containing the spill.

Crews worked through the night to neutralize the threat, secure the facility, and clear the surrounding area.

Ammonia is a corrosive chemical commonly used in commercial refrigeration units, industrial manufacturing, and agricultural fertilizers. Exposure to concentrated vapors can cause severe respiratory damage, chemical burns, and eye irritation.

Local authorities have not yet reported any injuries associated with the fire or the chemical release. The cause of the initial blaze remains under active investigation by the Winslow Township Fire Department and local fire marshals.
