A fire erupted early Wednesday morning at Bar Bedford Garden, an outdoor event space attached to the Moxy Hotel on Bedford Avenue.
FDNY says the fire began shortly after 2 a.m. and was brought under control in just over an hour.
Witnesses described flames and heavy smoke visible from nearby buildings.
"It sounded like little mini explosions that I thought were fireworks," said Gianina Cavallaro, who lives in a building adjacent to the hotel. "That’s when I got up and went over, and it was like engulfed in flames."
Some hotel guests and nearby residents evacuated temporarily. However, one hearing-impaired guest reported not being alerted to the fire due to a lack of flashing lights.
"Definitely an eye-opening experience, which should be for other hotels as well, that you may have hard of hearing guests who do not wear hearing aids 24 hours a day," said Melissa Tate.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. Marriott, the parent company of the Moxy Hotel, has not yet responded to requests for comment.
