The New Jersey Jackals professional baseball team will now play on the newly renamed WellPoint Field at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson.
Officials say the partnership between WellPoint New Jersey and the Jackals will span several years and include community events and wellness programs.
“Hinchliffe Stadium is one of only two stadiums still standing in the country that hosted Negro League baseball games The other one is in Birmingham, Alabama - It's Rickwood Field. They've got a whole host of sponsors and that's been able to sustain the stadium and sustain the teams that play on that field," says Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh. "We're hoping that this will help us sustain the stadium and sustain the New Jersey Jackals.”
The Jackals will play their first game on WellPoint Field tonight against the New York Boulders.
