Federal judge: NYC Mayor Mamdani must comply with ICE subpoena on Mott Haven homeless shelter
A federal judge ordered New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to turn over information on a Mott Haven homeless shelter to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The federal order requires Mamdani to comply with a subpoena from ICE on the city-run homeless shelter on East 141st Street and Bruckner Boulevard.
The subpoena seeks information that includes the names and birthdates of men who live at the shelter who are not United States citizens and have criminal histories.
The order also says the federal government is investigating whether anyone who lives at the shelter is subject to deportation.
The 2,200-bed single men’s migrant shelter caused an outrage back in early 2025, which sparked officials to push back against the facility.
“The Bronx should not have to bear the brunt of this ongoing crisis,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson back in January 2025.
Residents, community leaders and businesses also raised concerns over public safety when it was announced that the facility was coming to the area.
