FDNY says its crews were called to the Brooklyn Public Library’s Williamsburg branch after reports of a lithium-ion battery fire.
Officials says the fire filled the library’s ground floor with smoke around 12:50 p.m. Sunday.
FDNY says staff on the inside were able to move the battery outside of the library, where crews were able to extinguish the flames before the fire caused any structural issues or injuries.
Fire officials could not confirm what device the battery came from, but a FDNY report from 2024 found that over 500 serious fires, including those with fatalities, were traced back to the batteries found within e-bikes.
E-bikes could be seen outside the library, but did not appear to be the source of the blaze.
