The FDNY says two people were injured in a Bay Ridge apartment fire.
It says the call for the fire came in just before noon on Thursday on Fort Hamilton Parkway, prompting 79 fire and EMS personnel.
Joshua Barrientos says he's the one who called them.
“When I entered the building, I smelled smoke. I didn't really think it was anything because it wasn't very strong downstairs. But when I got to the second floor, you could really see the smoke," said Barrientos.
The FDNY says the fire was under control just before 12:30 p.m.
It says two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. One woman who did not want to speak on camera says it's something she won't forget anytime soon.
“I was worried. I am petrified. I'm still shaking," she said.
Sharif Francis lives in one of the apartments damaged by the fire. He says he was on his first day of a new job when a message from his landlord came across his phone.
“He just said, it was through text ‘Hey do you know your apartment’s on fire?’ I said 'what, no.' And he said 'hey maybe you should go,'" said Francis.
News 12 crews observed an e-bike on scene that appeared to be damaged, but it's unclear if that was the cause of the fire as the FDNY says the cause is still being investigated.
