An early morning fire at the Langston Hughes NYCHA complex in Brooklyn left one person critically injured and eight others with minor injuries Tuesday, according to the FDNY.
The blaze broke out in a building with 20 apartments, prompting a response from 78 emergency workers. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to FDNY.
Outside the affected apartment, Christmas decorations remained visible above windows marked by smoke residue, a somber reminder of the incident's timing during the holiday season.
Nearby residents expressed their concerns and offered messages of hope for those affected.
“Trust God this holiday season,” one resident said.
Others shared similar sentiments, saying they hope the rest of the holiday season is smooth for those impacted.
Officials have not yet provided any further information on the condition of the critically injured individual.
