A doctor and his son are accused of illegally selling prescription drugs.
Dr. Richard Taubman and his son, Eric Taubman, allegedly sold prescriptions for Percocet, Adderall and Xanax.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said that in 2022, Eric Taubman gave his dad the personal information and medication requests of his friends and acquaintances. Prosecutors said Richard Taubman then issued those prescriptions at various Queens pharmacies from his Glen Head home.
The Drug Enforcement Agency tells News 12 that Eric Taubman was paid $300 to $400 in cash for each prescription.
Richard Taubman worked in Great Neck as an OB-GYN, then retired, the DA's office said, until working in 2022 at a weight-loss center in Islandia.
The district attorney said that during a three-month period, Richard Taubman prescribed hundreds of pills to multiple people. Those people, according to prosecutors, then kept the pills for personal use, sold them or traded them for cash and drugs.
"We entrust our doctors with our health, and here you have a doctor that's abusing that and exploiting that just to turn a profit," said DEA New York Enforcement Division Special Agent in Charge Farhana Islam.
The Taubmans both pleaded not guilty at their arraignments. The father, son and their attorney declined to speak to reporters at the courthouse.
They are due back in court on May 7.
