A family who formerly resided in the Hudson Valley is sharing their story about having to evacuate during Hurricane Milton.
Kim Weiss and her family are from Ardsley but now live near Venice, Florida.
Weiss says her home and neighborhood has minimal damage. She said she's grateful that her neighborhood did not sustain a lot of damage and that her family and pets are safe.
She tells News 12 they weren’t going to evacuate at first but decided to at the last minute. They drove over three hours to stay with family in central Florida to escape the storm.
"We decided we were going to grab whatever necessities we could and our kids and our animals and pack the two cars up and leave," Weiss says.
Weiss says her home also has power. But she’s unsure when they will go back home because of safety and traffic.
