More than 350 people gathered at Jennings Beach in Fairfield Sunday for the inaugural Capalbo Strong Walk to honor the legacy of local hockey player Charlie Capalbo.

The beloved 23-year-old battled cancer four times over five years before passing away in 2022.

Coinciding with the launch of the new nonprofit, The Capalbo Strong Foundation, the event raised critical dollars for pediatric cancer research and medical grants.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Charlie Capalbo Memorial Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and local Connecticut hospitals.
