Fairfield first responders and one of the high schools each year partner for a mock car crash safety simulation ahead of prom season.
The interactive event demonstrates the response of local emergency services but also gives students a real look at serious victims from wrecked vehicles, and experts hope that it might make them think before they get behind the wheel.
The simulation walks students through the entire emergency process — from the initial 911 call to the on-scene medical support and simulated transport of injured student actors to the hospital.
"A lot of the faces of the kids in the audience especially when you know the ambulance shows up, the fire truck shows up, the police show up and you kind of see the seriousness on the faces of the kids watching it, and that's the impact that we want," Bill Schietinger with American Medical Response said.
