A man was arrested after surveillance video allegedly showed him breaking into a car and targeting several others in a Mamaroneck neighborhood.
Police say 26-year-old Christofer Colon was captured on surveillance video early Tuesday morning checking vehicle doors along Gertrude Avenue. Investigators say he entered a blue car parked in a driveway after first trying to get into a white minivan.
The victim's family tells News 12 they discovered the break-in when they woke up and found the car had been ransacked.
"We saw somebody actually walk in on driveway. Tried one car that they couldn't get in, tried the second car which they were able to get in, just went through it and then left like it was no business," said Vincent Keck.
The family says Colon returned to the driveway just minutes later. A family member tells News 12 he made off with two tin cans, one containing cash and the other filled with Band-Aids.
Police say Colon also targeted two other vehicles that morning but was unable to get inside. Investigators say surveillance footage helped lead to his arrest within hours.
Mamaroneck police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables and keys, and report suspicious activity promptly.
