Cuyler Gore Park in Fort Greene is reopening this fall after a year of renovations, bringing major upgrades to the community space.
Nearly every part of the park has been improved, with new walkways, fresh landscaping and upgraded water and electrical systems, including sprinklers for the children's play area and a jungle gym.
Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Martin Maher said the goal is to revitalize the space for residents.
"They remember the tired old park. Parks renew neighborhoods and give people a place to unwind," Maher said. "We're excited for this."
A new upgraded stage area for live performances is being added, but officials say the park’s most valuable feature is its historic trees, which have been protected to last for generations.
"They provide shade, beauty, and a home for birds and wildlife. We take great care of our trees," Maher said.
Another big change is a formerly closed-off street, now transformed into a seating area where visitors can eat, work and relax on the park's western end.
"This space will allow people to sit, use their computers and grab lunch from nearby restaurants. It's a great addition," a parks official said.
Local businesses are looking forward to the park’s return.
"As more businesses open nearby, seating is limited, so this will really help," said Tomer Blechman, owner of Thea Bakery adding " but its not just the businesses is the community that has been here for a long time I hear from them every day how excited they are for this."
The city says the park will welcome visitors later this year.
