A former Stratford High School wrestling coach faced a judge Tuesday, accused of sexually assaulting a student three years ago.
Jordan Miron, 36, of Stratford, was the current head wrestling coach at Staples High School in Westport but resigned Saturday, two days before his arrest, according to the school district’s superintendent.
On Tuesday afternoon, Miron made a brief first appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court charged with second-degree sexual assault. The Public Defender’s Office was assigned to represent him, and the judge issued a protective order barring Miron from contact with the former Stratford student at the center of the case.
“We had a victim come into the police department on the 12th to report the incident to the detective bureau,” Police Chief Renee Dominguez said.
Dominguez told News 12 the woman is now 20 but was assaulted in the summer of 2023 when she was a student at Stratford High School and Miron was the wrestling coach.
“From there, the detectives were able to get enough probable cause to get a warrant signed yesterday, and we were able to make an arrest,” Dominguez explained, adding the speed of the arrest was due to, “great detective work, cooperation, and we had enough information right from the beginning where many times it is not the case.”
Miron was arrested Monday and held on $150,000 bond, which he posted prior to his arraignment.
Stratford Schools Superintendent Heather Borges said in an email that Miron hasn't worked for the school district since 2023.
“At this time, because this matter remains an active police investigation, Stratford Public Schools is unable to comment on the specifics of the case or personnel matters. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as appropriate. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority,” Borges wrote.

Westport Schools Superintendent Thomas Scarice released a statement, saying, the district was notified about the Stratford police investigation on Wednesday, May 13.
“Although the wrestling season concluded in March and Mr. Miron had fulfilled his coaching responsibilities for the season, upon receiving this information, the District took immediate action in recognition that coaches often maintain contact with students, families, and staff outside of the athletic season. Effective immediately, Mr. Miron was directed not to engage in any communication or interaction with Westport Public Schools students, families, staff members, or members of the athletic community. In addition, he was informed that he is prohibited from entering any Westport Public Schools property or attending any school-sponsored activities at any location," Scarice said. "On Saturday morning, May 16, Mr. Miron submitted his resignation from his coaching position, effective immediately.”
Miron had no comment after his arraignment and is due back in court June 5.
