A parade of winter storms left its mark on parts of the Jersey Shore, including in Sea Bright, where some stretches of beach have disappeared.
In Sea Bright, just north of the Ship Ahoy Beach Club, waves were crashing up against the seawall where the sand had completely disappeared for several blocks.
Officials said the situation is not new for the Monmouth County shore town, which has long dealt with shifting sands and erosion. The last federal beach replenishment project in Sea Bright was in 2020, and Mayor Brian Kelly said the borough periodically addresses trouble spots on its own.
Kelly said the town is aware of the lack of beach in that area. Sand naturally travels from south to north there, and he said the borough sometimes picks up extra sand from beaches to the south to help address the issue. He described the stretch as one of the town's nuisance problem areas.
Sea Bright OEM and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were contacted for further comment.
Beaches near the club were faring much better, with sand still in place.
