Millions of New Yorkers could soon find an energy rebate check in their mailbox.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that POWER rebate checks of up to $200 are being mailed to 8.2 million households across New York.

The state began sending the checks on Sept. 21, with deliveries expected to continue through December.

Eligible New Yorkers do not need to apply or sign up to receive the money.

Joint filers with incomes under $150,000 will receive $200, while joint filers making between $150,000 and $300,000 will receive $150.

Single filers with incomes under $150,000 will receive $100.To qualify, residents must have filed a timely 2024 New York state income tax return, been a full-time state resident, met the income requirements and not have been claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's return.

The one-time rebates are part of the state's $1 billion Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate, or POWER, program.

Hochul says the program is intended to provide relief to New Yorkers facing higher utility and other household costs.

The state says checks will be mailed automatically to eligible residents through December.
