Emu on the run ruffles feathers in Sussex County
Animal control officers in Sussex County are searching for the owner of an emu found wandering in a wooded area in Byram Township. According to a social media post Saturday by the Hopatcong Animal Shelter, the large bird was spotted just off Waterloo Road. Animal control officials are urging people not to go to the area to try to locate the bird, saying they already have several experienced people assisting. Their goal is to find out who the bird belongs to. Emus are flightless birds native to Australia. Known for their speed, emus are the second-largest birds in the world and can grow to 6 feet tall.
