A 25-year-old Elmwood Park man was killed late Sunday when his SUV veered off the Garden State Parkway and struck multiple trees in Bergen County, authorities said.

New Jersey State Police said troopers responded around 11:14 p.m. March 22 to a motor vehicle crash on the southbound Garden State Parkway at milepost 167.1 in Washington Township.

Officials say that a BMW SUV driven by 25-year-old Joel Hernandez was traveling southbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway to the left and struck multiple trees.

Hernandez sustained fatal injuries in the crash, police said.
