A group of seniors say they can hardly believe they are still begging and pleading to go back home, one year after being evacuated because of floodwaters, from 1888 Foster Meadow Lane in Elmont.

"It is really deplorable, that we are, bottom line, homeless," one resident told News 12. "I've been living in a shelter and believe me, you don't want to live there and my brother's been sleeping in the car."

Some of those residents rallied Saturday with state and local leaders to push for Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman to drop the lawsuit he filed last year against the building's management company.

As News 12 reported when it was filed last October, the lawsuit claimed the company has ignored multiple requests to make necessary repairs.

In a statement to News 12, Nassau County Spokesperson Christopher Boyle said, "The county initiated litigation against the managing agent in order to protect the residents of the co-op. That litigation is pending and no further comment will be made at this time."
