Eastchester’s annual Columbus Day Carnival came to a close Monday following a weekend of food, games, entertainment and a celebration of Italian-American heritage.
The annual festival has been a community tradition for more than 50 years. Despite rain canceling Sunday’s parade, organizers said more than 9,000 people attended the carnival Saturday, marking a record for the event.
Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita said the festival celebrates the contributions of Italian Americans and the community’s pride in its heritage.
The festival also allowed local businesses the opportunity to connect with the community.
Paul Russo, owner of Crema Caffe, said participating helps businesses get their names out, meet members of the community and be part of the annual celebration.
Organizers said they look forward to continuing the tradition for another 50 years.
