At least two dozen patients were diverted from CareWell Health Medical Center in East Orange due to a lack of air conditioning on Friday night.
Hospital officials say repairs were underway Saturday and expected to last through the weekend.
The state Department of Health and Office of Emergency Management were on site.
Patients who could not be moved within the hospital had to be transferred to other local facilities.
The outage is not impacting every room. CareWell is otherwise open.
The hospital received an order from the state Department of Health in summer 2022 to correct elevated temperatures in patient and emergency rooms.
Some were reported then above 80 degrees.
That order was lifted later that year.
The hospital - formerly known as East Orange General Hospital - has been in the community for more than 100 years.
