A Salisbury Mills family is safe but displaced after an early-morning house fire heavily damaged their home on Brian Court.

Firefighters responded to 11 Brian Court, where flames tore through the home. Officials say everyone inside was able to escape without injury.

Neighbors say they woke up to flashing lights and the sound of emergency crews rushing to the scene.

“It was just engulfed in flames. It’s definitely very scary when it’s right in front of your eyes,” said neighbor and local business owner Juli Liporace Reitzes.

She says the neighborhood immediately shifted its focus from the fire itself to helping the family recover.

“There was about five fire trucks, 10 police cars. All that matters is everybody gets out of the house,” she said.

Within hours of the fire, neighbors had already begun collecting clothing and other essentials for the family. They also brought birthday gifts for one of the family’s young children, whose birthday is today.

“Only just happened a few hours ago. Everybody’s trying to help out as much as they can,” Liporace Reitzes said.

A cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

While officials had not released a cause as of Sunday evening, neighbors told News 12 they believed the fire may have started in the backyard before spreading rapidly to the second floor.

Despite the extensive damage to the home, neighbors say they are grateful the family made it out safely and are determined to help them begin rebuilding.
