The Shepaug Hydroelectric Station is the largest hydroelectric station in Connecticut and it provides a unique feeding site for bald eagles.

The station’s operation prevents water from freezing, making it easy for Eagles to find fish to eat.

Nearly 167,000 visitors have come to observe the eagles and view exhibits.

Visitors have witnessed as many as 20 or more eagles in a single day, as well as a variety of other birds.

Conservation efforts have helped the species make a comeback in the state.

The viewing is free Wednesdays and weekends, Dec. 21 to March 9, however, reservations are required.
