The New Hackensack Fire District responded to a deck fire call, arriving to find the fire already rapidly spreading.
The intense flames caused significant structural failure, leading to floor collapses and trapping pockets of fire in the basement.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for injuries not considered life-threatening.
After extinguishing the fire, crews helped the homeowner recover surviving items from the garage area.
The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division is probing the cause of the fire.
