A Dutchess County man has pleaded guilty in the fentanyl death of his 16‑month‑old daughter.

Prosecutors say 49‑year‑old Haitham Dasan, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, admitted to criminally negligent homicide. They say the case dates back to April 2021 when he handled a plastic straw inside a clear container that held fentanyl.

He then admitted preparing food and feeding his daughter, Soraiya Desai, food tainted with the drug. She later died of acute fentanyl intoxication.

Dasan faces two to four years in prison when he is sentenced in May.
