Dump truck slams into a trailer during morning commute, igniting fire and fuel spill in South Brunswick
A morning commute collision between a dump truck and a trailer sparked a significant fire and a hazmat cleanup on Promenade Boulevard in South Brunswick Thursday morning.
Kingston Fire units were dispatched to the intersection of Princeton Gate and Promenade Boulevard at 7:17 a.m. following reports of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, the fire chief and deputy chief found a trailer fully engulfed in flames.
According to authorities, a driver was attempting to make a left turn from Princeton Gate onto Promenade when they failed to yield to an oncoming dump truck. The dump truck struck the trailer, causing it to ignite.
Crews arrived on the scene and moved quickly to extinguish the blaze and ensure the fire did not reignite.
The westbound lanes of Promenade Boulevard were shut down for approximately two hours as crews worked to manage a fuel spill and clear debris from the roadway. The Middlesex County Hazmat team was called to the scene to oversee the environmental cleanup of the spilled fuel.
No injuries were reported following the crash.
The roadway was reopened to traffic later that morning once the scene was deemed safe.
