Justine Wilson and Luka Kosmat opened up a family business in 2022 – Hounds Town.
The dog day care hosts between 35-50 dogs daily and serves the greater Dumbo community.
After two years of “booming business,” describes co-owner Justine Wilson, the dog haven is facing possible eviction.
Between leaking pipes and a deteriorating ceiling from water damage, Wilson says the couple has had to put all of their profit into repairs and now, legal fees.
Their landlord, David Habit, has handed them lawsuits due to noise concerns.
Wilson tells News 12 she went to the lengths of bringing in a sound engineer to see what solutions could be made. She tells News 12 that she was fully open to the idea of soundproofing the ceiling, but the frequent leaks made that option difficult.
She fears that once repairs are made, damages will seep right back from the continued leaking.
News 12 reached out to Habif unsuccessfully.
News 12 also spoke to a lawyer who claims to represent other tenants in the building. She says her clients, who live in the same building as Hounds Town, have not slept in their units for over a year due to the noise.
We asked about the flooding situation in the building. She told us it was of no concern.
Hounds Town has an eviction date of Feb. 27.
